A Message from Tony Messina, VP of Human Development

What is it like working at ArQule?

In 2008, ArQule is celebrating its fourteenth year in business. Our journey has taken us far from being an entrepreneurial chemistry startup company to a publicly traded biotechnology company with a rapidly growing and changing work environment and a team of employees committed to making medicines that will improve the quality of life for people around the world. In order to accomplish our mission, we need talent that reflects a spectrum of disciplines and world-class leadership.

During the process of deciding whether or not ArQule is the right place for you at this point in your career, I would like you to seriously consider what our culture has to offer. We have an entrepreneurial spirit that translates into a "can-do" attitude. Our employees are expected to achieve results and are held to very high standards. We set the bar high. Our current portfolio of products is the result of three intense years of everyone aggressively pursuing and achieving personal and corporate objectives. ArQule managers are expected to provide the guidance and support necessary to motivate employees to work hard but also to have some fun. In addition, they need to possess the competencies to attract, develop and retain talent. Our leaders must be knowledgeable in corporate strategy and possess a high degree of emotional intelligence.

What kind of employee succeeds at ArQule?

In order to adequately respond to this question, I need to share the ArQule values that will be officially introduced in the coming months. Encompassing our values is our ONE DREAM, ONE VISION of curing cancer. To reach this goal, our employees have to be innovative, which demands leading edge ideas and skills in science and technology. They have to be flexible, in order to respond to a changing environment. Individuals working at ArQule need a passion to succeed, which means they are focused on overcoming any obstacles and achieving measurable progress. At ArQule, teamwork is key so that "we" comes before "I". Our employees are the talent that makes us successful so we need to cultivate their strengths and reward them. Lastly, we stand for integrity. We value doing the right thing all the time regardless of the consequences.

Employees who have difficulty accepting change tend to find our environment challenging. Furthermore, a willingness to take risks is essential at ArQule. Individuals who have a low tolerance for risk tend to be reluctant to experiment. Lastly, success here means taking responsibility to manage work relationships. Employees are expected to resolve conflict, ask questions and express concerns in order to reach their highest potential.

ArQule is a great environment, but not perfect. We spend a lot of time and resources working to improve the company and ourselves. Our environment is only as good as the commitment everyone makes to serve the employees, shareholders, customers and community. I believe ArQule provides all the elements to inspire employees to make significant contributions and thus expand their knowledge through exciting experiences. We are committed to learning on and off the job.

Where do I start?

We believe the decision to join ArQule is an important career choice. It must be right for the individual as well as for ArQule — we want your career as well as the company to flourish. We are looking for people who will contribute to making our vision a reality and who will passionately engage in what we believe is an exciting and important journey. We want people who believe anything is possible. If you want to help shape our future, contact us. We want to hear from you.
