| Angiogenesis |
The process by which new blood vessels are formed.

| Apoptosis |
Cell suicide that is genetically determined or environmentally induced. The destruction of cells from within follows a programmed biochemical event. |
Cell Cycle
|
The sequence of events between cell divisions. The cycle is conventionally divided into G0, G1, S, G2 and M phases.

Checkpoint
|
Internal surveillance mechanism that stops the cell cycle when there is a problem (e.g. DNA damage).

| Ligand |
A molecule that binds to a receptor or protein.

| Metastasis |
The spread of cancer from one part of the body to another.

Mitosis

Phase of the cell cycle in which the chromosomes separate.
